* Bishops’ Messages for Christmas

 

 For Christmas 2006, each bishop of diocese issued a message and wished that all people in the world may have full of love and blessing of Jesus, and the grace of Lord.

 

 In the message entitled “God Is with Us”, His Eminence Nicholas Cardinal Cheong Jinsuk, Archbishop of Seoul and Apostolic Administrator of Pyong-yang, said, “During the Christmas season, the Church should humbly assume an attitude of reflection on herself”. And the Cardinal invited the faithful with this recommendation: “The contemporary era has more urgent request on sharing than ever before, so let us have the Church reflect the image of Jesus who healed the poor and people with wounded heart.”

 

 The Most Rev. Paul Ri Moun-hi, Archbishop of Daegu, congratulated Christmas, which makes us joyful with love toward human as Jesus did, saying “The Nativity enabled us to live together with Him and to live forever by living unity in Christ.”

 

 The Most Rev. Andreas Choi Chang-mou, Archbishop of Kwangju, asked the priests to carry out the threefold offices of Christ as ‘the light of the world’; priestly office, prophetic office and kingly office. He asked the religious to carry their mission through prayer and labor. And he told the laity to be ‘salt and light’ in the world as a witness of Christ.

 

 In addition, regarding the North Korea’s nuclear test, the Korean Bishops called on the faithful to build the peace through prayer and constant dialogue, saying “Violence begets violence.” And they hoped that God may take care of our northern brethren suffering from bitter cold hunger.

 

* Message for the 2006 Week for the Sanctification of the Family

 

On the occasion of the Week for the Sanctification of the Family starting from the Feast of Holy Family of Jesus, Mary and Joseph, on December 26, 2006, the Most Rev. Jacobus Kim Ji-Seok, President of the CBCK Committee for Family Pastoral Ministry, issued a Message and urged that the family should always be a community of prayer in order to be healthy and sound.

 

In the message entitled “Prayer is the strength of the family”, Bishop Kim stressed, “To prevent the family from disintegration and let it live as a living cell, it should live the life of prayer which gives an awareness of the presence of God.” He continued, “The strength and spiritual unity of the family can be obtained through the prayer to our Lord.” saying, “Family is the community in which the Word of God is revealed for the first time.”

 

 Bishop Kim urged, “Every Catholic family should make an effort to become a community of prayer, and should sincerely carry out its apostolate of family taking care of the families wandering in the swamp of pain and frustration.”
