The Order of St. Benedict Waegwan Abbey (Abbas: Rt. Rev. Abbot Simon Petro Ri Hyong-u) said at a press conference held on August 28 that it is going to hold various events on the occasion of 100th anniversary of its entry into Korea and presented a plan for events.
The first event of the centennial anniversary was the dedication ceremony of new church held on August 30 in Waegwan by the preside of Rt. Rev. Abbot Simon Petro Ri Hyong-u. The former church was burnt on April 6, 2007 by a fire of unknown cause and has been rebuilt over 2 years. In the new church, a simposium will be held from September 11 to 12, 2009.
The Order of St. Benedict Waegwan Abbey will celebrate its 100th Anniversary during a week from September 19 to 25, 2009, with various events including lectures given by Rev. Anselm Grün from Germany, an exhibition, a music concert and a closing Mass. During this week, the Synod of Abbots of the Benedictine Confederation 2009 will be also held in Waegwan.
