The Archdiocese of Seoul (Archbishop: H.E. Nicholas Cardinal Cheong Jinsuk) held a festival to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the canonization of 103 Korean martyrs, on 19 September, 2009, at Yeouido Park in Seoul.
This festival was organized to manifest the spirit of reconciliation, sharing and testimony that Pope John Paul II imparted to the Church in Korea 25 years ago, and to recall the faith of our martyr Saints. For this event, various programs were prepared to embody the spirit of the festival: an oath of the participants to the donation of blood, organ and bone-marrow, the benediction ceremony of Commemorative Stone in honour of the canonization of 103 Korean martyrs and a solemn Mass presided over by Cardinal Cheong with the participation of about 5,000 Catholics. Besides, a theatre of martyrdom and a music concert were also performed to remember the life and faith of 103 martyrs.
In his homily of the Solemn Mass, Cardinal Cheong urged the faithful to "imitate the life and belief of our martyrs who lived and bore witness to a firm faith in God without being discouraged by adversity". He also hoped that today the faithful would succeed the spirit of our martyrs and, following their example, commit themselves to the love in truth.
