The Most Rev. Peter Kang, President of the CBCK sent a message of consolation to the President of the Catholic Bishops' Conference of Japan, to express the solidarity in a concrete form of assistance

 

- Development of nationwide prayers and drive for contributions to help Japan's recovering from earthquake damage

- Caritas Korea International will send US$100,000 in emergency aid to Caritas Japan

 

The Most Rev. Peter Kang U-il, President of the Catholic Bishops' Conference of Korea (CBCK) sent a message of consolation on the Japan's devasting earthquake and tsunamis, occurred on March 11, to Archbishop Leo Jun Ikenaga, President of the Catholic Bishops' Conference of Japan, on March 14 2011.

 

Bishop Kang said in the message, "We the Bishops of Korea wish to express our profound sorrow and sympathy at the tragic affects of Japan's major earthquake and consequent tsunamis, and pray for all the victims and their families (...) May the Lord of Mercy comfort and strengthen them and give them a new hope in this hour of untold suffering." And he added, "We wish also to express our solidarity in a concrete form of assistance, all too modest in the face of the magnitude of the calamity, to be disposed of at your discretion."

 

Accordingly, the CBCK sent an official letter to all 16 dioceses in South Korea to promote nationwide prayers and drive for contributions for the victims and their families and it also asked them to send the financial aid for Japan's recovering from damage to the CBCK by March 18 2011. Caritas Korea International, CBCK affiliated organization for the international cooperation development, will donate US$100,000 in emergency aid, including US$50,000 from the One-body One-spirit organization of Seoul Archdiocese, to Caritas Japan.
