Life Says, Life Listens, and Life Walks!
There was a national event called ‘March for Life’ at Yeouido, Seoul on June 8th, 2013 to promote the cause of protecting the life of unborn children and mothers.
The theme of March for Life was ‘Life Speaks, Life Listens, and Life Walks!’, encouraging people to appeal for the abolishment of the Mother and Child Health Law including abortion and to put the sanctity of life into action.
This event drew around three thousand participants regardless of religion, age and origin. They marched 3.7 km around Yeouido to manifest the intention to take part in the protection of life.
Before marching, the participants and Federation of Pro-Life issued ‘Principle of Life’ and ‘Our Requests’ to urge the government and legislators to act in concrete ways. ‘Our Requests’ are: abolition of the article permitting abortion in the Mother and Child Health Law including a practical crackdown, including punishment, on homicide of unborn children, financial support for pregnant women and single mothers, and an increased budget for the prevention of abortion, national support with medical treatment for handicapped children.
The Most Rev. Linus Lee Seong-hyo, President of the Pro-Life Activities of CBCK, said, “The situation of abortion in Korea has not changed. Especially, exceptional rules make our country ‘an underdeveloped country in regard to life.’” He also emphasized that the government, in order to reduce the rate of abortion, must carry out the right policy at once and establish a system for people to make a positive choice.
