Communication on June 25
* Message for the Prayer Day for Reconciliation and Unity of Korean People On the occasion of the 2004 Prayer Day for Reconciliation and Unity of Korean People on June 27, 2004, the Most Rev. Lucas Kim Woon-hoe, President of the CBCK Committee for the Reconciliation of the Korean People, issued a message and asked the faithful to demolish the wall between South and North Korea and sow the seeds of "justice, peace and joy" in the hearts of Korean people. In the message, Bishop Kim recommended the faithful to "think first about the reconciliation with myself and with neighbors, the reconciliation among regions and among social classes and the unity in the Church." He also said that "we should reconcile with God who is present within ourselves." Pointing out that "in a sense the external signs of the national division are gradually fading away," he called on the faithful to make more effort to build "the real meaning of reconciliation and unity," which is to recognize and accept the others as they are. Reminding the Korean Catholics of the prayer of the Lord (cf. Jn 17,21) for the unity of believers, he concluded that "the Church should respond to this prayer of Jesus with concrete practice of reconciliation and unity." |
