* Message for the 2005 Bible Week Issued

The Most Rev. John Chrysostom Kwon Hyeok-ju, the president of the Bible Committee of the Catholic Bishops' Conference of Korea, issued the Message for the 2005 Bible Week.

With this message, entitled "The Freshness of the Word: the Living and Abiding Word of God (1Peter 1:23)", the Most Rev. Kwon introduced briefly the history of The Korean Bible, which was published in September, 2005, to help the Catholic faithful to understand The Korean Bible better.

He also said that the words and expressions of The Korean Bible, which was newly translated, might be a little bit unfamiliar for the faithful. Nevertheless, he urged the Catholic faithful to make it their mission to read and contemplate The Korean Bible, because the freshness itself of The Korean Bible would rather help the faithful to experience the freshness of the Word over again.

In conclusion, he expressed the hope that the faithful could draw new vigour from The Korean Bible and meet Jesus Christ anew.

* "Trinity Leadership Program" Launched

The Seoul Archdiocesan Research Center for Integral Pastoral Ministry developed recently the so-called "Trinity Leadership Program" for the lay leaders of the Small Christian Communities. It aims to invigorate the activity of the Small Christian Communities through the lay leaders armed with new leadership.

The Trinity Leadership Program is comprised of three levels, "the Father", "the Son" and "the Holy Spirit."

At the first level, "the Father," the participants are encouraged to ascertain their hidden potentialities. At the next level, "the Son", the participants are urged to find the image of a leader after the example of Jesus Christ. At the final level, "the Holy Spirit", the participants would understand what a good leadership of a Small Christian Community is.

It takes 9 hours to complete the program in five different sessions. Each session is held once a week. At the end a priest will celebrate a Mass for the participants.

The participants of the "Trinity Leadership Program" which was held from Oct. 6 to Nov. 10, 2005 at the Hwayang Parish in Seoul said in one voice that it was a good opportunity of self-examination. And they also expressed their ambition to be lay leaders who would follow the example of Jesus Christ.

The Rev. Bartholomew Chon Won, the director of the Seoul Archdiocesan Research Center for Integral Pastoral Ministry, said that "Most of all, we need to build the leadership which fulfills the ecclesiastical sense of the Church, in which priests, religious and the laity come together in communion in accordance with the spirit of the II Vatican Council." And he added, "The Trinity Leadership Program is designed on the ground of this spirit to be a help in building the ideal Church."

He also said that he would provide any institution or parish of other Dioceses with the experienced lecturers on request for the program.
