Message for the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity Issued

The Most Rev. Hyginus Kim Hee-joong, the president of the Committee for Promoting Christian Unity & Interreligious Dialogue of the Catholic Bishops' Conference of Korea(CBCK), issued a message for the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity. "For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them."(Matt 18:20) is the title of the message.

In this message the Most Rev. Hyginus Kim affirmed that "the Church must be the first to manifest and bear witness to the sign of unity if she wants to become the sign of the unity between God and man, and among human beings."

He said, "The Catholic Church and the Protestant Church, which are both on the journey to the unity, must perceive that they are called to be the community of common prayer, before they begin to dispute about the different doctrines between them." And he urged that "All Christians must understand that the unity is a grace of God and they have to persistently pray for this grace especially in this week of prayer for Christian unity."

And as the conclusion, he expressed his hope that "Priests and the laity could bear witness to the Christian hope through personal encounter among ministers, unreserved reciprocal visit among the laity, initiation of common prayer, and common measures for the local social agenda."

Favorable Response to the New Web-site of the CBCK

A favorable response is given to the recently renovated web-site of the CBCK(https://cbck.or.kr). As a matter of fact, the original web-site was launched on Jun. 28, 1998. This time the CBCK shows itself in the Internet as the center of the Church in Korea through a total renovation.

Most of all, the renovation is aiming at the user-friendliness. The netizens can easily understand the past and the present of the Universal Church and the Church in Korea at a sight on this web-site. And they can also easily access to the Church documents and materials. Especially, separate URLs are assigned to the "Kyeong Hyang Magazine"(http://zine.cbck.or.kr) and "The Pastoral Institute of Korea"(http://samok.cbck.or.kr) respectively, for the convenience of their special purposes.

Even an outsider can easily find many useful information about the Catholic Church both in the whole world and in Korea. For example, if you click on the "CBCK" icon on the web-site, you can find information of the latest activities of the Church in Korea, let alone the history and information of the CBCK. If you hit the "Catholic" icon, you will find many useful information about the Catholic Church, like the history of the Catholic Church, summarized Catholic teachings, prayers in common use, liturgical celebration, Holy Father, Vatican.

If you click on the "resource library", you will find, first of all, the Bible in various Korean versions including the Korean Bible, newly translated, and furthermore, the New American Bible in English. And You can also search through the Canon Law, the documents of the II Vatican Council, and various documents of the Holy See, which all are translated into Korean for the convenience of the web-site visitors. Even for those who have interest in Church documents in foreign languages, it provides a fast link to the related sites. The web-site will be renewed continuously in the future as new technology and demands surge.
