* "Caritas Corea" to Assume a Leading Role in Giving Aid to North Korea 

 


 


 


The CBCK Committee for "Caritas Corea" came to play a leading role in giving aid to as the official channel of Caritas Internationalis.



 


 


After a five-day visit to North Korea from May 29, the Most Rev. Lazzaro You Heung-sik, President of the committee, said, "On behalf of the Caritas Internationalis, we discussed the project of development and cooperation with Mr. Kim Seong-il, Vice-Chairman of the National Economic Cooperation Committee of North Korea, and exchanged a letter of intent."



 


 


In accordance with the letter of intent, Caritas Corea will take charge of giving aid to in 2007, which has been carried out by Caritas Hong Kong. Regarding the development and cooperation project promoted by Caritas Internationalis, Caritas Corea and the National Economic Cooperation Committee of North Korea will discuss the details and convene working-level meetings at the office of Inter-Korean Economic Cooperation Committee in Gaeseong, if necessary.



 


 


The Rev. Paul Jeremiah Hwang Yong-yeon, Secretary of the Committee for "Caritas Corea", said, "It implies that North Korea acknowledges Caritas Corea as the new official channel of Caritas Internationalis."



 


 


For last several years, Caritas Corea has played the most active role in sending food, medical support and relief aid in case of disastrous accidents, such as the train blast around Ryongcheon station, in .
