*Message for Human Rights Sunday

  On the occasion of the 25th Human Rights Sunday on December 10, 2006, the Most Rev. Boniface Choi Ki-san, President of the CBCK Committee for Justice & Peace, issued a message in which he wishes that society respects the human dignity and the value born in the Divine image, and appealed the faithful to make an effort to help for the poor and neglected.

  In his message entitled “To Exert Ourselves to the Utmost for Recovering and Establishing a Place of the Neglected Neighbor” Bishop Choi remarked, “Christians, guardians of human rights, should practice love in our society as the salt and light.”, and he urged, “It is not enough to have just sympathy for the foor and neglected, rather we should lead to establish the place for their life.” Bishop said, “Contemplating on the commandments of love, let us revive the justice of God in this earth.” 

  Besides, Bishop Choi mentioned on the tension of the Korean peninsula, “The tension between North and South Korea has been sharpened lately as the result of nuke test, and it makes our future uncertain.” He asked the faithful to pray for human righs in North Korea with deep consideration.

 Celebrates the First Anniversary

  On the occasion of the first anniversary of the committee on life of the Archdiocese of Seoul (Chairman: the Most Rev. Andrew Yeom Soo-jung, Auxiliary Bishop of Seoul), which initiates proliferation of the effort for protection of life, the committee celebrated the “Life Mass” on December 3, 2006 and retrospected on its history.

  The day featured by various events, including ‘Life Mass’, award ceremony, various congratulatory speeches from various circles.
In particular, five scholars and activists, were awarded the prize ‘The mysteries of life' for their devotion of life.

  The committee which was established on October 5, 2005, and celebrated the first Life Mass on December 4 of the same year, has made professional assistance on treatments of incurable diseases, supporting adult stem cell study, education on Life and information service.

  The Most Rev. Andrew Yeom Soo-jung urged, "The Catholic Church has good information of infrastructure for Bio-ethics. The role of the Church, however, has been focused on theory and campaign rather than practical work and practice. Now, we are in the time to put more effort in steering the change the attitude of life toward universal one."
