Revised Catechism for Catechumens of Catholic Church in Korea

Revised Catechism for Catechumens of Catholic Church in Korea

The CBCK Committee for Catechesis (President: Most Rev. John Chrysostom Kwon Hyeok-ju) published a revised Catechism for Catechumens of Catholic Church in Korea supplemented with Church’s social doctrine.

This revised catechism is intended to offer to the catechumens and all the faithful more concrete criteria on how to ponder upon and act on any moral and ethical problems in our society. The 2014 Autumn General Assembly of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Korea approved its revision with the emphasis on the “social doctrine”, which is considered as an indispensable element for both the catechumens and the faithful to know and live out.

The Catechism consists of three parts with 27 chapters: I. Preparation for Catechesis; II. Essential Catechesis; III. Moment of Purification and Reflection. In particular, the part three is complemented with Church’s social doctrinal contents. For the convenience of catechumens, this Catechism introduces “the aim of learning” at the beginning of each chapter.

The Committee published in 1999 Catechism for Catechumens of Catholic Church in Korea to help the catechumens understand better the Gospel of Jesus Christ and the teaching of the Church in connection with their own life, according to the Catechism of the Catholic Church and General Directory for Catechesis.
