The Order of Friars Minor (Minister Provincial: Rev. Paul Oh Sang-seon) established a Peace Service Center within Pyongyang Hemp Weaving Factory at Yeongjae-dong which is the mission district of Pyeongyang in North Korea. The dedication ceremony was presided over by the Most Rev. Lazzaro You Heung-sik, Bishop of Daejeon and President of the Committee for Caritas Corea of the CBCK, on October 30, 2008.

It is noteworthy that a welfare facility run by the Catholic Church in Korea opened in North Korea for the first time after the division of Korea into north and south.

The Peace Service Center is a permanent welfare facility with a mass catering service, a clinic, and facilities for bath and haircut. It is a joint operation of the Order of Friars Minor and Saebyeol Company under the National Economic Cooperation Federation of North Korea and offers catering service and medical care to local workers.

In his greetings, Bishop You said, I hope that the Peace Service Center will be a cornerstone of charity, sharing, reconciliation, and cooperation in order for South and North Koreans to live together helping each other.
