* Guest Lecture by Fr. Sean McDonagh, an Ecological Theologian
The Subcommittee for Environment of the CBCK Committee for Justice & Peace (President: Most Rev. Boniface Choi Ki-san, Bishop of Incheon) held a guest lecture of Fr. Sean McDonagh, SSC, an ecological theologian, under the theme “Ecological Crisis and Role of the Church in Our Times” at the Shrine of Baeron, in Jaecheon, Chungbuk, on November 7, 2008.
The Subcommittee explained that the intent of this guest lecture was “to provide the Christians facing various ecological crisis such as global warming to share opinions about its real situation and the role of the Church and to find together a way of evangelization in this area.”
The Subcommittee mentioned, “These days, as if testifying the serious warnings of disaster in climate change that scientists in the world who belong to Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) gave, various unusual phenomena of climate change and subsequent climate disasters are increasing.” Then, it stressed, “All human beings as well as we Christians, have an obligation to overcome this ecological crisis with the teachings of the Church, caring and protecting the nature created by God.”
