The Most Rev. Boniface Choi Ki-san, Bishop of Incheon and President of the Committee for Justice & Peace of the CBCK, issued the Message for the 27th Human Rights Sunday on December 7, 2008. In his message entitled "Protection of the Human Dignity is the Aim of 'Resuscitation of Economy' and 'Legalism'", Bishop Choi said, "Recently the rapid politico-economic change of our society has brought about the increasing number of the desperate people, who are living in despair and agony with no guarantee of basic rights. …… We cannot but feel uneasy about the reality of the human rights in our society, when we witness the abuse of the public authorities and moral hazard." Then he said, "On the occasion of the 27th Human Rights Sunday in 2008, the Committee for Justice & Peace of the CBCK invites all of you to ponder upon some following problems, hoping the change of our society for the restoration of the human dignity, with a look into the reality of our society."

Bishop Choi pointed out four problems, upon which the faithful had to ponder. They are:

1) the social trend of contempt for the human life and the value of human being, due to the age of materialism, consumerism, hedonism and the age of science.

2) the worsening situation of the socially weak, who are anguished in many shadows of the society.

3) the uncertainty of family communities because of the increasing number of the so-called 'wild goose fathers' and the undiminishing domestic violence. The 'wild goose fathers' are those who have to live alone while they financially support their wife and children living abroad, a phenomenon de facto resulted from the excessive competition for college/university entrance examination and the fever of English learning in Korea.

4) the prevailing trend of contempt for laws.

Bishop Choi reiterated that "we should never neglect the efforts for the protection of human dignity, even though we all are now in the middle of economic difficulties." Then he urged the faithful "to redress the evils of the society against its injustice, where human being is just a means, instead of an object, and where the weaker get the poorer reception, facing up to the reality of the society with the eyes of God, and speaking as a true Christian."
