Installation Ceremony of the 4th Bishop of Suwon

The installation ceremony of the Most Rev. Matthias Ri Iong-hoon as the 4th Bishop of Suwon was held at Jeongjadong Cathedral of Suwon on May 14, 2009.



Including the Most Rev. Osvaldo Padilla, Apostolic Nuncio in Korea, H.E. Nicholas Cardinal Cheong Jinsuk, Archbishop of Seoul, about thirty bishops and many priests and lay persons celebrated together the installation of the new Bishop of Suwon.


 


In his installation address, Bishop Ri said, "Together with my priests, I will live a life of stewardship in the Church for the spiritual joy, happiness and good of the faithful." Then he urged the faithful to "concentrate your energy to build a kingdom of Christ in this world, accomplishing the mission for the new evangelization as well as realizing the inner evangelization."


 


In his greetings address, Archbishop Padilla said, "The unity of Bishops means the unity with St. Peter the Apostle, and furthermore with Jesus Christ. …… [I hope] the new Bishop will lead a true community of Christ in intimate unity and love."



In his congratulatory address, the Most Rev. Paul Choi Deok-ki, Bishop emeritus of Suwon, said, "The new bishop is a suitable pastor of Suwon who has accumulated enough experiences as Vicar General and Coadjutor Bishop of Suwon. …… I will earnestly pray that he may lead the people of God as the supreme pastor of Suwon."


 


At the moment, the Diocese of Suwon has the jurisdiction over 17 cities and 2 counties. There are 373 priests practicing pastoral care for over 720 thousand faithful in 187 parishes in Suwon.
