The Most Rev. Boniface Choi Ki-san, President of the Committee for Justice & Peace of the CBCK and Bishop of Incheon, issued a message for the Day for the Environment 2009 with the theme "Economic growth causing the destruction of ecology is meaningless."

In his message, Bishop Choi said, "The basic reasons for the present global economic crisis are the economism and unilateral and unjust globalization bolstering the human greed of material. The economic behavior disregarding the value of environment has aggravated the environmental crisis of the earth. The harder the economic situation is, the more we have to be on the alert against the development- and growth-oriented policies which are thoughtlessly executed resulting in the destruction of the environment."

In conclusion, Bishop Choi said, "We have to listen to the words of God who says that protecting and sustaining the environment are what we need most, as we read the sign of the times in the global economic crisis touched off by the financial crisis."
