Dedication Ceremony of Kim Taegon Church Built within the Nonsan Military Training Camp

New era is opened for the evagelization of the military, a golden fishing ground of the mission. The Military Ordinariate held a dedication ceremony of the Kim Taegon Church and Choi Yang-eup Education Center built within the Nonsan Military Training Camp, on 19 September, 2009, with the participation of twelve Bishops including the Most Rev. Peter Lee Ki-heon, Bishop of the Military Ordinariate, the Most Rev. Osvaldo Padilla, Apostolic Nuncio in Korea, and the Most Rev. Peter Kang U-il, President of the CBCK, as well as other some 2,500 priests, religious, lay people and military personnel from all over the country.


 


Bishop Lee said in his homily, "Kim Taegon Church is a God's gift to the Military Ordinariate and, at the same time, the sign of God announcing a new beginning for the evangelization of the military." He added, "I hope that Kim Taegon Church could be a spiritual home and a base of spiritual growth for many young trainees who face spiritual and physical difficulties in an unfamiliar military environment." And he concluded, urging the participants to "take part together in the mission and pastoral care of the military for the evangelization of young people."


 


The newly dedicated Church was built with the charity and care of the Catholics from all over the country, that is unprecedented in the history of the Church in Korea. It comprises of Kim Taegon Church and Choi Yang- eup Education center, which can accommodate respectively 2,500 persons at the same time.
