2009 Autumn Plenary Assembly of the Korean Conference of Major Superiors of Men's Religious Institutes and Societies of Apostolic Life

The Korean Conference of Major Superiors of Men's Religious Institutes and Societies of Apostolic Life (hereafter, KCMS) held its 2009 Autumn Plenary Assembly at the conference hall of the Society of St. Francis de Sales in Seoul from November 4 to 5, 2009. At the assembly Fr. Stephen Nam Sang-woo, Provincial Superior of the Society of St. Francis de Sales in Korea, was nominated as the 15th President of the KCMS. He will hold the office for two years starting from January, 2010.


 


Fr. Nam, took a permanent vow in 1992 and ordained a priest in 1995, studied dogmatics and moral theology at Philosophisch-Theologische Hochschule Benediktbeuern and Ludwig-Maximilians-Universitat Munchen in Germany respectively and received a doctorate in moral theology. Since 2008 he has been the Provincial Superior of the Society of St. Francis de Sales in Korea.


 


In an interview with the Peace Weekly, Fr. Nam said, "I will try to find a way presenting the witness and charisma of the religious life in the reality of the Church in Korea. …… Especially, I hope that I can communicate the Word of God to the heart of the youth deeply, pondering on the way showing the 2000-year-old face of Jesus to the youth with youth movement."


 


It was also decided as follows:


 


- A 'Missionaries' Day' will be celebrated on October 1, on the occasion of the Feast of Therese of the Child Jesus, virgin, doctor, as from 2010.


 


- The '5th renewal program for senior priests and religious' will be held at the Suji St. Mary's Education Center of the Sisters of Our Lady of Perpetual Help from May 24 to 27 and from June 28 to July 1, 2010 respectively.


 


- The dispatch of the ordained religious from 23 religious institutes will be continued to support the pastoral care for the members of the armed forces.
