Message for the Week for Catholic Education


 


     President of the CBCK Committee for Education, Most Rev. Boniface Choi Ki-san, issued the message for the Week for Catholic Education, May 24 to 30, 2010. Bishop Choi mentioned this year was very meaningful for all the Catholic educators because the second Day of Catholic Educators with the theme, "Ask the True Teacher, Jesus, the Path of Education" was held with great success after the first one in the year 2000. On this day, all the Catholic educators made resolutions to follow our only teacher Jesus and realize principles and ways of his education in each educational activities.


     Bishop Choi mentioned that all the Christians need to try to put more efforts to convey the life of God so that people will be able to lead meaningful lives. Education can be the basis of making it come true. He also emphasized the importance of education on life as we lately witnessed the negative phenomenon that people have negligence of their lives. In addition, he urged on education to make people in our society show concern for the disabled and the youth from multicultural families.


     Bishop Choi made a point that a home should be an cradle of practicing the education to put more value on lives. The youngsters might be inspired by what their parents or other educators, who have great influence on them, truly carry out for life.


     In conclusion, Bishop Choi said that there are the great discrepancy between culture of life and that of death in our society. Therefore, the most necessary thing to create culture of life is "a great prayer for life" (Evangelium Viate, n.100) that all the world offers with one mind.
