Message for the 15th Farmers' Sunday

The Most Rev. Matthias Ri Iong-hoon, President of the CBCK Committee for Justice and Peace, issued a message with the theme, "We Are Peace Makers and Agents for the Preservation of the Creation" for the 15th Farmers' Sunday on July 18, 2010.

Bishop Ri mentioned on the difficult situations which all the farmers in Korea are facing these days, as farmlands are being changed to industrial or residential sites. He also expressed his concern about the crisis of food because of the diminishing agricultural products resulted from the dwindling farm land. In addition, he said that the number of farmers who are responsible for agricultural products are getting smaller, and more farmers have to leave their home because of the Four Major Rivers Project.

Bishop Ri said that we have to choose 'ecological lifestyle', rejecting consumption-oriented life to save agriculture, rural area, and farmers.
