Episcopal Ordination of Rev. Francis Xavier Yu Soo-il

Episcopal Ordination Mass of the Most Rev. Francis Xavier Yu Soo-il, O.F.M. of Military Ordinariate in Korea was celebrated at St. Andrew Kim Church in Korea Army Training Center, Chungnam on September 15, 2010.

There were about 3,500 participants in the Mass including H.E. Nicholas Cardinal Cheong Jinsuk, Archbishop of Seoul, the Most Rev. Osvaldo Padilla, Apostolic Nuncio in Korea, other Bishops and priests, military related agencies, religious, and the faithful.

Cardinal Cheong said that the ordination of the new Bishop would spur Military Ordinarate in Korea on spiritual growth and reformation. The Most Rev. Osvaldo Padilla, Apostolic Nuncio in Korea told that Bishop Yu would not spare his effort to take spiritual care of Korean soldiers called to serve for peace and freedom. He also said that H.H. Pope Benedict XVI appointed Bishop Yu to give high praise to his spirituality and ability.

Bishop Yu said that he would humbly serve people in Military Ordinariate in accordance with the words of Jesus, "I have given you a model to follow, so that as I have done for you, you should also do" (Jn. 13,15).
