Commemoration Mass for the 6th Anniversary of the Election of Pope Benedict XVI

The bishops of Korea celebrated the commemoration Mass for the 6th anniversary of the election of Pope Benedict XVI at Myeongdong Cathedral in Seoul on March 30, 2011.

The Most Rev. Peter Kang U-il, President of the CBCK, presided over and concelebrated the Mass with other bishops. Along with the bishops, Presidents of the Korean Conference of Major Superiors of Men's Religious Institutes and Societies of Apostolic Life and the Association of Major Superiors of Women Religious of Korea, as well as many lay representatives participated in this Mass. The Most Rev. Osvaldo Padilla, Apostolic Nuncio in Korea, gave homily during Mass.

In his homily, Archbishop Padilla said, "Christ chose Peter, and for over 2,000 years, 264 men were chosen to succeed him to lead the Church. Our history is an eloquent witness of the presence of the Holy Spirit, even in the difficult times for the Church. …… And so, for the past 6 years Pope Benedict XVI has been Bishops of Rome and just like the 263 other successors of St. Peter the Apostle. The years of the Pontificate of Pope Benedict XVI have been full of inspired teachings on faith, hope and love, and on key events of the world with threats to peace, environmental challenges, and the explosion of technology in the new millennium." And He continued, "Pope Benedict XVI is above all a pastor. He is a pastor and spiritual father to the world's 1 billion plus Catholics and to other people as well, guiding and bringing hope and comfort with a compassionate pastoral heart."

The bishops of Korea have celebrated the commemoration Mass of the anniversary of the election of Pope Benedict XVI every year.
