Celebration of the Centennial Anniversary of the Establishment of Apostolic Vicariate of Taiku (Daegu)

The Archdiocese of Daegu celebrated the thanksgiving Mass for the 100th Anniversary of its establishment on May 15, 2011. The Most Rev. Thaddeus Cho Hwan-kil, Archbishop of Daegu, presided over the Mass concelebrating with the bishops of Korea and other invited bishops from abroad.

Among the distinguished guests, the Most Rev. Alois Kothgasser, Archbishop of Salzburg, Austria, the Most Rev. Martin Su Yao-wen (蘇耀文), Bishop of Taichung (台中), Taiwan, the Most Rev. Braulio Saez Garcia, Auxiliary Bishop of Santa Cruz de la Sierra, Bolivia, the Most Rev. Bonifacio Antonio, Apostolic Vicar of Nuflo de Chavez, Bolivia, the Most Rev. Joseph Mitsuaki Takami (高見三明), Archbishop of Nagasaki (長崎), Japan, came to Daegu to offer their congratulations on the celebration of the Archdiocese of Daegu. Before the culmination with the thanksgiving Mass, there had been many events like youth festival, dinner reception and awarding ceremony from May 10 to 14, 2011.

The Apostolic Vicariate of Taiku (Daegu) was erected on April 8, 1911. On July 12, 1950 the name was changed from Vicariatur Apostolicus de Taiku to Vicariatur Apostolicus Taikuensis. On March 10, 1962, the Apostolic Vicariate of Taiku was elevated to the present Archdiocese of Daegu.
