Handbook for Pilgrimage to Catholic Shrines in Korea

On the occasion of the month of Korean Martyrs in September, in accordance with a new trend of travel, “walking” (pilgrimage on foot), the Subcommittee for Pilgrimages and Shrines under the CBCK Committee for the Pastoral Care of Migrants and Foreign Residents Living in Korea (President: Most Rev. Lazzaro You Heung-sik) published a Handbook for Pilgrimage to Catholic Shrines in Korea on 24 August, 2011. The book is composed of a brief introduction to the shrines in each diocese, a map for pilgrimages on foot, a time schedule for Masses, confessions, retreats, pilgrimage check box and memo line for meditation on each page.

The Most Rev. Lazzaro You said, "According to the increasing popularity of pilgrimage on foot and shrines development in all dioceses, we felt the necessity of accurate and portable guidebook and so we have sought to prepare a useful guidebook helping people experience blessed meeting with martyrs in following their footsteps."

The publishment of the book is also a way to promote prayer movement for beatification of "124 'Servants of God' including Father Thomas Choe Yang-eop as 'Confessor'" The acts for the cause of their beatification was presented to the Congregation for the Causes of Saints. Accordingly, the Council of the Catholic Lay Apostolate Organizations of Korea will hold a event of pilgrimage on foot to shrines in Naepo region, Chungcheongnamdo, on 4 September, 2011. Two thousands of Catholics are expected to participate in it.
