Praying for the Beatification and Canonization of the Servants of God,

“Paul Yun Ji-chung and 123 Companions” and “Father Thomas Choe Yang-eop”

The CBCK Special Episcopal Commission to Promote Beatification and Canonication (Chairperson: Most Rev. Michael Pak Jeong-il) issued a message to urge the faithful to pray for the beatification and canonization of the Servants of God, Paul Yun Ji-chung and 123 companions and the Servant of God, Father Thomas Choe Yang-eop.

In the message, Bishop Pak expressed hope for 125 Servants of God to be beatified, who were the foundation stones of the Catholic Church in Korea.

The Catholic Church in Korea finally petitioned for 125 servants of God to be beatified to the Congregation for the Causes of Saints on June, 2009. It has taken almost 20 years since 103 Servants of God, persecuted after Gihye Persecution of 1839, were canonized in 1984.

At this moment, Bishop Pak asked all the Korean faithful to pray for the beatification as quickly as possible while waiting for the last deliberation and the final approval of Pope Benedict XVI. And the other thing Bishop Pak asked the faithful to do is to put more efforts to take care of the historical sites and graves for the Servants of God.

Bishop Pak also cited what H.E. A. Cardinal Amato, Prefect of the Congregation for the Causes of Saints, said about the beatification: "The priority for the petition of the beatification for the Servants of God is the movement of the bottom. To attain the beatification, the enthusiastic original intention of the faithful should be expressed, and martyrdom reputation of the Servants of God should also be able to be confirmed."
