● CBCK's Autumn Assembly Held
2000 Autumn General Assembly of the CBCK held Sept. 25-28 at the CBCK building in Junggok-dong, Seoul, decided to take concrete step toward the Beatification and Canonization of Korean martyrs and to establish two new committees under its authority: the bioethic committee under the Committee for the Doctrine of the Faith and the subcommittee for women under the Committee for the Lay Apostolate.
Establishment of the subcommittee for women which was proposed by the Association of Major Superiors of Religious Women in Korea and accepted by the CBCK is expected to play a significant role for many issues related to women within and out of the Church, and to reflect their opinions widely and activate their participation in Church life.
The bishops agreed that the Committee for the Reconciliation of Korean People present more efficient and productive ways to help North Korea based on accurate analysis and evaluations of the reality of North Korean relief aid and all dioceses, religious institutes and organizations who wish to help North Korea inform and consult with the Committee.
All Bishops signed for the campaign to abolish Art. 14 of the Mother and Child Health Law that allows permissive abortion and will present the petition to the National Assembly with 1,231,081 signatures.
