● Inter-religious Youth Make Peace Pilgrimage
From September 29th, 100 young delegates from the seven major religions in Korea including Catholic Church, Protestant Church, Buddhism, Confucianism, Chondogyo and the Association of Native Religions made a 5-day pilgrimage for peace and reconciliation of Korean people to Baekdu and Halla Mountain under sponsorship of the "Hand in Hand" Campaign for Reconciliation and Peace. Rev. John Kim Jong-su, Secretary General of the Catholic Bishops' Conference of Korea is joint chairman of the Campaign. Baekdu Mountain is located in northern part of North Korea and Halla Mountain is located in Jeju Island, southern part of South Korea.
The pilgrimage was made in two parts: 70 Youth climbed the Baekdu Mountain in NK and 30 Youth climbed the Halla Mountain in Jeju Island, South Korea.
October 1st, the two groups of pilgrimage respectively made simultaneous prayer ceremony for peace and unity of Korean people at the top of the two mountains. And October 3rd, they made another ceremony of uniting the soil and water of the two mountains at the Gimpo International Airport near Seoul.
"This pilgrimage to the two mountains that represent the South and the North has a particular meaning for the unity of Korean people" Rev. John Kim said and wished that it becomes an opportunity to promote and advance peace in Korea and take lead on the path of peace and collaboration among different religions.
