The 6th Exchange Meeting of Bishops of Korea and Japan


 


November 7-9, 2000, the 6th Exchange Meeting of Bishops of Korea and Japan was held at 'St. Paul Chong Ha-sang Spiritual House' of Pusan Diocese, which is located in the southeastern part of Korea. At the meeting 24 Bishops participated who are composed 15 Korean Bishops and 9 Japanese Bishops. They gave attention to the addresses by two professors, one of whom is Korean and another is Japanese. The professors gave talks about cultural exchange between Korea and Japan. The Most Rev. Paul Ri Moun-hi, Archbishop of Taegu, and the Most Rev. Marcellino Daiji Tani, Bishop of Urawa, delivered speech about their program and activities in their own dioceses, and then the participants shared their opinions in various aspects. And they visited Tongdosa, one of the biggest buddhist temple in Korea, and deepened mutual understanding with the buddhist monks.
The Bishops of two nations agreed to promote exchanges among different groups of the faithful and to share informations about pastoral ministry in the diocese of venue. In future, the meeting will be held in the week after second Sunday of November every year. This meeting of Bishops began with study of history from 1996.
