Celebration of a Day for Overseas Missionaries

The CBCK Committee for Foreign Mission Work and Pastoral Care of Overseas Koreans (President: Most Rev. John Baptist Jung Shin-chul) celebrated the Day for Overseas Missionaries at the auditorium of Dongsung High School on November 6, 2012. This day was celebrated jointly with the cooperation of the Korean Conference of Major Superiors of Men's Religious Institutes and the Societies of Apostolic Life and the Association of Major Superiors of Religious Women in Korea.

The theme of the day was “Missionary Work and Culture in Latin America.” In his address, Fr. Immanuel Kang Yo-seop, who served as a missionary priest in Chile from 2002 to 2010, said, “I was able to grow into a man of mature personality and faith through my missionary activities in Chile. The natives whom I met in Chile came to me not as people whom I must be afraid of but as my close friends when I first open myself to them as a member of one family.” Sr. Mary Romana Park of the Sisters of Our Lady of Perpetual Help also said that “We can learn the value of life as a Catholic who follows the footsteps of Jesus when we practice missionary activities. So let us open ourselves to the world to listen to the cries from the barren soil of those countries to be evangelized.”
