On the occasion of the Easter Sunday on April 11, 2004, each diocesan Bishop issued messages and asked the faithful to promote social evangelization, in particular, by positively participating in the April 15 General Elections in Korea.

This year, especially, the Bishops expressed deep concern over the possible division or confusion of the nation due to the recent presidential impeachment, and urged the faithful to vote for eligible candidates who can and will devote themselves to building the common good in the society.

The Most Rev. Nicholas Cheong Jin-suk, Archbishop of Seoul, said in his message, "What we need now is the way of coexistence, reconciliation and unity," and asked the faithful to exercise their sacred right to vote for the sake of the future and happiness of the people because this General Elections assume special significance in the destiny of the nation.

The Most Rev. Paul Ri Moun-hi, Archbishop of Taegu, said, "Celebrating the Easter, we should live a life of great love and self-giving" and he noted that we should practice this way of life in this General Elections.

The Most Rev. Andreas Choi Chang-mou, Archbishop of Kwangju, said, "We the Christians have a unique point of reference, that is, Christ and the truth of His Gospel," and stressed, "when we remain in the 'unity' which Jesus the Savior desires and prays for, while acknowledging the variety of opinions, we can realize the life of unity in diversity."

Besides, the Bishops urged the faithful to spread the joy of the Easter to the world and to take the lead in resolving the problems of the society, such as, the disregard of life and the break-up of the family.
