* Apostolic Nuncio in Bangladesh Appreciates the Aid of the Catholic Church in Korea

The Most Rev. Paul Tschang In-nam, Apostolic Nuncio in Bangladesh, sent a letter to his native Diocese of Cheongju, appreciating the spiritual and material help from the Catholic Church in Korea and appealing more positive help for missionary work there.

According to his explanation in the April 3 letter, since he took the position of the Apostolic Nuncio in Bangladesh the Catholic Church in Korea has given aid to the Church in Bangladesh amounting to 278 million won (USD $ 242,000). He added that it was appropriated for various works, such as establishment of the building of Episcopal Conference, formation of priests and religious, education and medical services, construction of church buildings and support for priests and religious.

Saying that the Korean Foreign Mission Sisters will enter into Bangladesh for mission next year, he called on Korean missionary priests or diocesan priests, with the permission of the diocesan Bishops, to participate in the mission in Bangladesh more positively. In particular, he proposed that the Kkottongnae priests and religious come and provide services for Bangladeshi people.

* Bishop of Incheon Issues Message for the Diocesan Labor Sunday

The Most Rev. Boniface Choi Ki-san, Bishop of Incheon, issued a message for the 3rd Labor Sunday of the Diocese of Incheon on April 25, 2004, with the title "Whatever You Did for One of These Least Brothers of Mine, You Did for Me (Mt 25,40)."

In the message he pointed out the pending issues related to labor in Korea, such as the high rate of unemployment, irregular workers and migrant workers, and emphasized that in the light of the Gospel and the teachings of the Church we should seek the ways to resolve these problems.

He also said, "Unemployment, which deprives people of the right to work, is the violation of human dignity," and continued, "Now is the time for the Church to provide warm pastoral care for the young unemployed."

The Diocese of Incheon instituted the Labor Sunday on the diocesan level in 2002.

* Auxiliary Bishop of Seoul Issues Message for the Day for the Handicapped

The Most Rev. Lucas Kim Woon-hoe, Auxiliary Bishop of Seoul, issued a message on the occasion of the 2004 National Day for the Handicapped on April 20, and called for more concern and efforts of the Church and the faithful, saying, "Seeing the handicapped as equal members of the Church is the first step to overcome the discrimination."

Titled "To Make the Works of God Be Visible (cf. Jn 9,3)," the message read, "We should regard the handicapped as equal brothers and sisters in God and share everything with them, escaping from indifference, prejudice, biased thoughts and discrimination, but in reality discrimination still exists among us."

"We the believers should reflect on ourselves and be good friends of the handicapped," he stressed.
