The Social Apostolate Department of Seoul Archdiocese for environment (Dir. Rev. Francisco Tchoi Yong-rok) opened the Catholic Academy of Environment aimed at promoting eco-friendly culture and had a founding ceremony on Oct. 25 at the Catholic University in Hyehwa-dong, Seoul.
The Most Rev. Peter Kang, Director of the social apostolate department of Seoul Archdiocese said in his congratulatory address that "we are here today to declare the Church's position to adopt the environment issue as an important question in order to restore the harmony of the world that God created from its disorder and chaos."
Ms. Kim Myong-ja, Minister of Environment, remarked that "there is a limit to solve the environmental issue on material level alone, and in this context the religious world has an important role to play to promote cultural and spiritual dimension of the humanity put aside by the material centered value system of today."
The newly established Catholic Academy of Environment has its root in an affiliated movement to the One Heart One Body Movement of Seoul Archdiocese called "Sky, Earth, Water, Friend" movement.
